Ancient Nikopolis was a city of Epirus founded by the Romans in southwestern Epirus, near present-day Preveza. The city was founded as a symbol of the great victory of Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian—later the Roman Emperor Augustus—against Mark Antony and Cleopatra VII of Egypt.
